Cyclist critical after being hit by truck

The RACQ CareFlight rescue helicopter was tasked to Tweed Heads Hospital this morning to airlift a 34 year old Tugun man who was hit by a truck while out riding his bike earlier this morning.

RACQ CareFlight Air Crewman Ben Trollope said the man suffered serious injuries after being thrown from his bike.

“The man sustained a badly fractured pelvis and had some internal bleeding,” he said.

“He also had a major blood transfusion at the hospital.

“The truck struck the man and he was thrown around eight meters away from the truck but it’s fortunate that he didn’t go toward the truck or underneath.

"The accident occurred at Tweed Heads.

“We are preparing to airlift him to the PA Hospital in Brisbane for further treatment for his injuries.

“He’s currently in a critical but stable condition.”
